چکیده

Neat Fibers of HiPco single wall carbon nanotubes extruded from strong acid suspensions exhibit preferred orientation along fiber axes. We characterize the extrusion-induced alignment using x-ray fiber diagrams and polarized Raman scattering, using a model which allows for some fraction of the sample to remain completely unaligned. We show that both x-ray and Raman data are required for a complete texture analysis of SWNT fibers. Comments Copyright Materials Research Society. Single Wall Carbon Nanotube Fibers Extruded from Super-Acid Suspensions: Preferred Orientation, Electrical and Thermal Transport

Fibers of single wall carbon nanotubes extruded from super-acid suspensions exhibit preferred orientation along their axes. We characterize the alignment by x-ray fiber diagrams and polarized Raman scattering, using a model which allows for a completely unaligned fraction. This fraction ranges from 0.17 to 0.0560.02 for three fibers extruded under different conditions, with corresponding Gaussi...

Single wall carbon nanotube templated oriented crystallization of poly(vinyl alcohol)

Shearing of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/single wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) dispersions result in the formation of self-assembled oriented PVA/SWNT fibers or ribbons, while PVA solution results in the formation of unoriented fibers. Diameter/width and length of these self-assembled fibers was 5–45 mm and 0.5–3 mm, respectively. High-resolution transmission electron micrographs showed well resolved...

Magnetically aligned single wall carbon nanotube films: preferred orientation and anisotropic transport properties

Thick films of single wall carbon nanotubes ~SWNT! exhibiting in-plane preferred orientation have been produced by filter deposition from suspension in strong magnetic fields. We characterize the field-induced alignment with x-ray fiber diagrams and polarized Raman scattering, using a model which includes a completely unaligned fraction. We correlate the texture parameters with resistivity and ...

Crystallization and orientation studies in polypropylene/single wall carbon nanotube composite

Crystallization behavior of melt-blended polypropylene (PP)/single wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) composites has been studied using optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Polypropylene containing 0.8 wt% SWNT exhibits faster crystallization rate as compared to pure polypropylene. PP/SWNT fibers have been spun using typical polypropylene melt spinning conditions. The PP crystalli...

Single-walled carbon nanotubes in superacid: X-ray and calorimetric evidence for partly ordered H2SO4

Liquid anhydrous sulfuric acid forms a partly ordered structure in the presence of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). X-ray scattering from aligned fibers immersed in acid shows the formation of molecular shells wrapped around SWNTs. Differential scanning calorimetry of SWNT-acid suspensions exhibits concentration-dependent supercooling/melting behavior, confirming that the partly ordered ...
